HOW TO LEARN ALL 15 SCALES IN ONE DAY!
Step 1: Slowly speak the musical alphabet forward and reverse starting & ending on the letter of the scale. Remember that the bottom and top note are the SAME. Do not skip any letters of the alphabet or repeat any letters consecutively! For a D major scale speak... "D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-C-B-A-G-F-E-D".
Step 2: Slowly speak the musical alphabet with the required sharps or flats. Use your CIRCLE OF 4TH’s sheet to check which letters are a sharp or flat. Remember, a scale can only have sharps OR flats not both. For a D Major Scale (2 sharps) speak… "D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D-C#-B-A-G-F#-E-D".
Step 3: Slowly spell and finger (aka. "spinger").... Speak the scale out loud while fingering your instrument. If you forget a fingering, use your CIRCLE OF 4TH’s sheet to remind yourself. Remember, notes in the same column sound the same and are fingered the same!
Step 4: Slowly spell the scale (in your mind) while fingering and playing. If your spell correctly, your fingers will go down error free! If you make a mistake, you were not spelling correctly! Your mind was at fault. Go back one step!
Step 5: Recite, finger and play instrument while reading the notation with your eyes! Click HERE for the Grand Master Scale sheet.
Important: Whenever you mess up, do not get frustrated go back a step!
