     FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BAND

​When does band meet? Band is a curricular class that meets during the school day. Each student has a weekly rehearsal during morning homeroom. Each student also receives a weekly small group lesson on a rotating schedule. 

Who will be in band? Your friends and fellow classmates will join you in what will be some of the most exciting and fun times of your school years. With over 350 students, the music department is the largest organization in the school. Many of our students are the school leaders and among the most successful students at Carusi.

Can I participate in athletics, chorus and other school groups? Yes! We encourage our students to participate in athletics and other school groups.. Many of our students are very successful athletes and academic leaders of our school as well.

What fun things will we do in band? The best reward is learning to play an instrument and making music! You will also experience many parties, trips, concerts, contests & performances throughout the year!

Do band and orchestra meet after school? Each group has a weekly after school rehearsal during the weeks leading up to concert. These after school rehearsals do not conflict with athletics or other groups.

Does playing an instrument really make me smarter? Playing an instrument exercises many parts of your brain that are not usually used! More and more research comes out every year showing that students who play an instrument develop faster and achieve higher test and SAT scores.

Are school-owned instruments available? Each student is expected to provide his/her own instrument however Carusi has a limited amount instruments available to students on a first come, first served basis. 

Can I switch instruments? Yes but it takes work because you will begin two years behind. Private teachers are recommended for this transition!
